Empowering People with Disabilities, Youth & Women Through Beekeeping for Better Livelihood.

Pehops is a Malawian social enterprise dedicated to beekeeping, honey production, and eco-friendly farming, empowering youth, women, and people with disabilities whilst creating sustainable jobs.

Our Mission

We focus on sustainable practices, providing training, products, and services that support local communities while combating climate change through responsible beekeeping.

Uplifting Communities

PEHOPs is working with 28 communities, supporting 2,500 marginalized households, 60% of whom are individuals with disabilities, to promote sustainable beekeeping. Despite resource limitations, it has trained community members and donated 380 beehives to 28 groups. PEHOPs also provides training on constructing beehives from local materials and serves as an off-taker, ensuring a market for honey and bee products.

To combat deforestation, PEHOPs rents trees in 35 communities, paying MK 5,000 (€4) per tree every 3-6 months after honey harvesting. This initiative provides a sustainable income alternative to tree cutting. Additionally, PEHOPs helps secondary school students start beekeeping businesses to fund their education.
